The vineyard
The name
“Dominio del Arenal” (Sandy Ground) comes from the time when phylloxera was wreaking havoc all over Europe.

The owners of the vineyard decided to bring sand from the beach at Valencia to put into the fields and thus stop the pest from spreading. The sand brought from Valencia in ox-carts (a distance of 80 kilometres [50 miles], rising nearly 800 metres above sea-level) gave such a special look to the vineyards that the ended up being called “Dominio del Arenal.”

At the beginning of the last century, sand from the beach at Valencia was put in the vineyards to fight the phylloxera. The special appearance thus acquired by the vineyard and its surroundings gave it the name of “Dominio del Arenal.”
